In 1914 the workshops became the property of French entrepreneurs, who named them P.I. Renault and organized the production of iron shutoff valves and fittings.
After the revolution of 1917 the plant was named "Remrud". It had been working extensively on restoring mine equipment in the Donetsk Coal Basin (Donbas) by repairing mine pumps and manufacturing some iron components.
